Rosalba Neri in James Bond knock off

One of the better and more serious James Bond rip offs. The film has low budget but takes itself seriously and avoids camp. Superseven needs to track down a rare radioactive material hidden in a camera. This sends him off to Cario where most of the film takes place. Meanwhile, the bed guys want get the material first, or at least let Superseven lead them to it. There he meets Rosalba Neri's Faddja, who is forced to help the bad guys to pay off her debt to them. Rosalba gets decent screen time here and looks great. Her role is a bit more involved in the plot than many of her films. It's hard to tell if she's with the hero or against him, which is an plus given the majority of the characters she played. A huge surprise for me here was the female lead, Fabienne Dali. She played the old woman Ruth in KILL BABY KILL under a load of make up. She's a femme fatale here and 180 degrees from Ruth. I watched a dreadful looking full screen English dubbed print. There is a widescreen German DVD I would love to see sometime, a good looking copy would improve the film's pleasure tenfold.

A samurai warrior is haunted by the spirit of his first wife.

Review :

Cheap effects mar above average period ghost thriller

Set bound in the tradition of "Kwaidan" with a similar spooky traditional Japanese music soundtrack, Illusion of Blood is a competent and atmospheric period ghost story.

Set in an unsettled time in Japanese history, Tatsuya Nakadai plays a ronin who's wife is ordered back home by her father after he's lost his job as a samurai. Starving and forced to make paper umbrellas for a living, the ronin, Iuemon almost sells his sword but renege on the sale and decides to claim his wife back. Unfortunately her father is a cad and is forcing his daughters to prostitute themselves to feed him as he's a ronin also. The father reveals that he'll never agree to let his daughter back and he also knows that Iuemon stole money from their lord. Iuemon cracks and kills him. Meanwhile Iuemon's best friend has eyes for Iuemon's sister-in-law and he kills her husband the same night. Iuemon and his friend use the bodies to concoct a crime scene that points to an fictitious assailant. A changed man, a sulking, guilt ridden Iuemon mistreats his wife and his newborn baby. He connives to dump her so he can marry into a rich family and regain a samurai position. He obtains a "medicine" that causes instant facial deformity (!) and give it to his wife. The idea that if she's hideous he can dump without guilt. The medicine works too well and she dies in agony. The infant dies as well. This sets the stage for ghosts and haunting for the rest of the film.

Like many other Japanese films, there are few "good" guys to be found in this particular world. The two sisters are essentially the only good people but are endlessly abused and tormented by the evil around them. Another character can only do good when forced to the edge of terror or guilt. The film is very dark, much of it happens at night or indoors in shadows. The sets are very obvious and the special effects will be laughable to some. The story calls for rats. And for the rats to do things that real rats wouldn't do so there's a number of rat dolls being pulled around by wires. What carries the film is the performance of Tatsuya Nakadai. He is fascinating to watch. The story is contrived with way too many plot point coincidences but on an enjoyment level it comes out reasonably well. The film is a bit long at 105 minutes, I can't see what would be in a 190 minute version. I have doubts that there is one.

Interestingly the ending bears some similarity to another Tatsuya Nakadai film from the same year, "Sword of Doom".

Interestingly bleak film, you might like it. The director's "Portrait of Hell" is a better film.

Review :

Certainly not for everyone but amusing

The first sequence is considerably the better of the two. The middle-aged queen who owns the house on Fire Island is fairly entertaining. People like him were still around ten years after the movie was made. Indeed: The whole thing is very prescient. (Not that this is a surprise with Andy Warhol.) There have been numerous plays, movies, and television shows with plots that are cleaned-up versions of this part of the film: The older man, his paid-for date, the jealous neighbor, the female neighbor who wants to get in on the action.

The premise is brilliant, too: As we hear the primary characters in dialog, what we actually see is the young man he's renting lying on the beach, whittling. The waves, the whittling ... It's not anywhere as long as some of Warhol's other movies but it's focused on a simple task, repeated.

The second part is about the guy and the neighbor. They are in the bathroom. It's kind of like soft-core porn. I see less of Warhol's art here. And it's less entertaining.

Hansen... Frede Hansen

Before they made the unforgettable, iconic series revolving around, and titled after, The Olsen Gang(a lot of the ingredients for which are found in this), the five talented people without whom said franchise would never have existed, much less been what it was(until 1998... don't worry, I'm not going to get into that here), made this together. In case anyone is unclear on who I am referring to, I shall list them: Balling, whose excellent direction here takes a relatively simple(if thought through well, and jam-packed with creativity and impeccable little touches) approach to the potentially complex genre of spy flicks, whilst poking respectful fun at it, with countless details clearly inspired by the Bond films, three or four of them being out at the time this came out. Bahs, who put together the hilarious script, with sight gags, cleverness, parodying and some slapstick. Sprogøe, portraying the picture perfect, nearly flawless agent, Smith. Grunwald, playing the salesman who gets unintentionally involved in the plot. And last, but not least(...I swear that wasn't a fat joke), Bundgaard, as the spot-on villain. The story-telling is smooth and masters the communication, and most can follow this(honestly, you can get the gist of a lot of it without speaking the language, though I would definitely suggest getting a version with English subbing/dubbing). Pacing is great, this is not boring at any point, and it's genuinely entertaining from start to finish. There are plenty of gadgets, fights, chases and explosions, and the 90 minutes go by fast. This certainly isn't lacking in energy. Fabricius-Bjerre nails the tone for the music. The acting tends to be fitting, occasionally overdone. Persson was not cast for her skills in that particular area(one specific scene will tell you what the real reason was), though with that said, she really isn't required to do anything too deep, and she does quite well with what she's given, and seems to enjoy her time in front of the camera. There is eye-candy for males in this, including brief nudity. The violence is mild and entirely unlikely to upset anyone. I recommend this to any fan of anyone that had any part in the making of this. 7/10

Review :

Saturn Devours His Children

While credited as an Italian/French co-production, Albert Band and Mario Sequi's THE TRAMPLERS has all the hallmarks of a Spanish tragedy about a power bloated patriarch who'd rather destroy his own children than see them settle up with the times. Joseph Cotten is appropriately blusterous as the patriarch in question, a former Confederate officer who evidently used the Civil War as an excuse to indulge his own bigotry & intolerance of anybody he deems not good enough to sit down in his parlor for a good family dinner with him and his sons -- some of whom are dangerously beginning to question the old man's ways.

Tarzan actor Gordon Scott (in his final film performance) plays the prodigal son who rides into town after a few years in a Yankee prison camp and his horrified to find his father & brothers cheerfully stringing up a local rancher whom pops has set up for cattle rustling, and things never get any cheerier. As another commenter points out, this is a somewhat somber, glum horse opera about a family at odds with itself: Cotten demands unswerving loyalty to his vision of traditions, where the younger son (James Mitchum, who is probably the best thing about the movie) has had enough of the killings, and the younger daughter has even dared to strike up a romance with Franco Nero, playing a kid of mixed blood who dreams of owning his own ranch and is bewildered by the bigotry he finds aimed at him for having fallen in love with the wrong girl. Things turn tragic when the old man sends out some of his nephews to bring the girl back home while Scott & Mitchum side with the young lovers, leading to death and madness.

THE TRAMPLERS reminds me a lot of another Euro cowboy flick, Joaquín Luis Romero Marchent's FEDRA WEST from 1968 with James Philbrook also playing a bigoted patriarch who'd rather destroy his family than change with the times, though that film is more of a Spanish production in terms of both where it was made and the flavor of it's appearance. THE TRAMPLERS is actually what I would term a middle period Euro western rather than an out & out stylized spaghetti affair. There isn't much of the arty atmospherics that permeate the better known Sergio Leone and Sergio Corbucci affairs, with the family drama taking center stage to the usual choreographed gunfights and subtle nuances that most viewers associate with Italian made westerns, though some of the French locations used for the exterior shots look unique; No gunfights in the same old Almeria boulder field.

The film was made in an interesting manner too with stock footage of cattle drives filmed on location in the American west blended almost seamlessly with the Italian soundstage work to create a sort of pastiche of a traditional cowboy movie. It's also interesting to contrast Franco Nero's role as the young half breed with his "Django" character from the following year, the comparison itself being almost a concise study in how the approach of the Italians changed over just a few months once Leone's artful, cartoonish methods became the predominant form. This is a more character driven approach that presents it's violence as an outcome of conflict rather than the subject matter (though one guy does get blowed up real, real good), with the traditional Americanized approach being the style the film seeks to emulate. While certainly smaller in scale THE TRAMPLERS has more in common with THE SEARCHERS than it does FISFTULL OF DOLLARS, complete with the implied racism of a white man having to come to grips with the world changing around him, clinging to those old traditions even if it kills him or those he loves. It does, and like FEDRA WEST the end results are emotionally shattering on a personal level rather than the morbid exhilaration of watching Clint Eastwood ride off into the sunset on a wagon load of bodies.

Gordon Scott's performance is somewhat thankless, however. Along with a rehash of BUFFALO BILL this was his only western after the Peplum sword & sandal idiom that he graduated into once the Tarzan work dried up. It's too bad he didn't make more of them because he never really developed an identity as a western actor, abruptly leaving the industry after this film's completion in 1965. Legend has it he had his nose broken during a dust-up with a supporting actor during pre-production on a subsequent film, felt that his leading man looks had suffered and withdrew into solitude + obscurity just as the genre was developing it's own voice (Scott spent his final years living anonymously as a house guest of some of his Tarzan aficionados). His casting in the role is arbitrary however and it could have been played by anybody, which is ironic considering that to fans of Italian genre cinema his name is the biggest draw in the cast simply because he made so few films before calling it quits. I would have loved to have seen him in a more rambunctious production.

Sadly the film has also been relegated to what is sometimes called Spaghetti Western Hell, a term used to describe movies that have fallen out of copyright and seem destined to stay that way, though as usual a widescreen presentation might improve one's perception of the results, hence my neutral rating of 5/10. It's certainly not a bad film, the characterizations are somewhat stronger than your average Italo western with an interesting dramatic tension that's usually missing from most examples of the idiom. Unlicensed fullscreen presentations aren't hard to come by, and for Gordon Scott fans it's certainly a must-see experience -- it's is also Franco Nero's first western outing as well, so students of spaghetti westerns will have to seek it out at some point -- though the ending is certainly a bit of a downer for sure. Like, really.

Surprisingly Ordinary Euro Western From The Blind Dead Director

I finally got a chance to see this Euro Western from Amando de Ossorio (THE BLIND DEAD) as a German home video release from the later 1980's called GNADENLOSE KILLER, and was very surprised to find it to be a rather pedestrian horse opera. George Martin stars as a beefy frontiersman who joins up with a rabble of hunter/prospector types operating along the US/Canadian border and running afoul of the Royal Mounties for some reason that escaped my high school textbook German. Things come to a head when they kidnap the only blond haired woman within a thousand miles as a bartering tool, who it turns out is all too happy to be removed from the clutches of the local land baron that paid good money to have a trophy wife sent up north to him.

Or something along those lines: What is interesting about seeing the film with only German audio and not understanding 90% of what is being said is that the film is reduced to it's simplest components and emerges as nothing more than competently made ready for TV B-western fare, without the kind of swaggering artsy flair usually associated with European made westerns. There are shootouts, duels, damsels in distress, a hot catfight between the film's ravishingly beautiful dark haired women, before finally settling into a bizarre cavalry fight between the Mounties and the frontiersmen, and it was here that I started to sense some of Ossorio's themes that would later emerge in his Blind Dead films.

Which was the reason I sought it out: Since Ossorio wrote the story & screenplay you'd think that early parallels to his horror movies would abound, and they do. We have the two "societies" or social organizations operating in conflict with each other, a public execution setting the stage for later conflict, a scene of fiendish torture against one of his lovely women actors, soldiers on horseback charging into battle with their sabers, a deadly female halfbreed warrior violently devoted to the white man she lusts for -- elements later seen in all of Ossorio's horror outings.

George Martin makes an appealing if somewhat ordinary he-man sort of lead, and more enjoyment is found watching the contributions of cult movie icons Franco Fantasia and Raf Baldessare as two of the frontiersmen. The costuming and equipment carried by the players is also amusingly odd: Nobody seems to be wearing any clothes more than a week old, and modern day police special pistols are used alongside of prop-ish looking firearms with little or no concern about authenticity. Characters use knives that are brand new, reflectively shiny and don't appear to be sharpened. The main point of the costuming and props seems to be to set the two societies apart: The Mounties wear funny Mountie hats, the frontiersmen wear fur hats fashioned from raccoons and leather vests.

Even more interesting is the location work, probably filming in the mountains of northern Spain as a substitute for Canada, and fans of the 1974 Peter Fonda movie OPEN SEASON will recognize the lake that much of the action is set around as being the location used for that movie's exteriors as well. The cabins & Mountie forts all look brand new, like they were built about a week before filming began, and the whole movie has a sort of phony glossy look to it that reminds me of old episodes of DAVY CROCKETT or even F-TROOP. Just with a body count around 100 dead on screen: The concluding fifteen minutes are surprisingly violent, but not in a way that seems necessary. More like he was told to add a cavalry battle with massive loss of life on both sides -- at one point he seems to run out of supporting characters to kill off, and the two lovers walk away alone rather than celebrating their victory because all their friends are dead.

Which isn't to say it's a bad movie, just not as imaginative as what Ossorio would later begin with MALENKA in 1968. He doubtlessly made this movie under a contract that included TOMB OF THE PISTOLERO from 1965, also with George Martin and Franco Fantasia. I'd love to see an English translation of the film & know exactly what is happening but don't hold out much hope. It's an incredibly obscure movie that has probably never gotten more than Cowboy Matinée showings on cable in it's English language form, if even then. But it would be right at home alongside such fare, sort of cunningly disguised as a cheapo 83 minute Western with lots of gunplay, dopey frontier romance and a musical interlude to get things going. Standard stuff, and that's just not what you'd expect from Amando de Ossorio at all, which is probably what makes it so interesting. I had no idea he was capable of making a movie that looked so ordinary.

'Spy in your Eye' refers to 'bionic' plot device

Saw film at a double-feature second run house in the '60s. The spy-in-your-eye alternate title refers to an implanted micro television camera in a spy's eye. I can't remember if it was Dana Andrews. There's a tunnel under the Berlin Wall for the west to spy on the east that figures in the plot. Of course, the tunnel is discovered. There's a gimmick character who's hunchback deformity conceals a radio transmitter. Never understood why, if they could get the camera that small, why not the radio? I remember it fondly, but then I was 12 years old. Representative of '60's spy cycle, but at least they referenced real cold war players instead of made-up spy organizations. Don't know if its available.

Review :

Richard Harrison gets whipped -- by the script.

There's certainly a lot of action in this production -- a seemingly endless series of shootouts and fistfights involving good white guys, bad white guys, Indians, and various members of the Mexican army. One bad guy gets a fork stabbed through his hand and Richard Harrison gets tied up and whipped. (Curiously, though Harrison was one of those muscular physique-models who went to Europe in the wake of Steve Reeves' success as "Hercules," he plays this whipping scene with his shirt on, and that shirt must be made of a super fabric before it never shows so much as a rip!)

The action soon becomes wearying, however, because the muddled plot never generates much interest and the characters' motives and allegiances are confusingly presented. Even fans of "spaghetti westerns" may want to skip this one.

(Note: though the song heard at the beginning and end of the movie refers to "Ringo," that name is never used in dialog in connection with the Richard Harrison character who instead goes by the names "Lee Barton" and "Ward Cluster." Also, the "$100,000" referred to in the movie's American title seems inaccurate since the trove of lost money proves to be $200,000.)

As for Harrison's flogging scene, it would probably have been included in the book, "Lash! The Hundred Great Scenes of Men Being Whipped in the Movies," had Harrison played it with his shirt off. This attempt to flog information from Harrison does provide the movie with its best dialog. "If I were you," says the villain, giving his victim a momentary reprieve from the whip, "I'd choose a much quicker death. I promise you that I'll leave you here to rot unless that tongue of yours loosens up a bit."

Review :

an excellent euro-western

This movie is the follow-up to "A Pistol For Ringo"(Una Pistola per Ringo), but it is not a sequel. All of the main actors return for this story, but they play completely different characters, and while Giuliano Gemma portrays another character called Ringo, this protagonist has nothing in common with the first "Ringo." It may seem unusual to those who haven't watched a lot of these movies, but that kind of thing is quite common in the spaghetti western genre.

This Ringo is not an outlaw like the one in the previous movie, yet he is much more serious and deadly, because he has been wronged on a very personal level, and is seeking justice and revenge. This gives the movie a much more somber tone than the previous film. It's a gripping story without a single boring moment.

All of the main actors are at the top of their game in this one. Antonio Casas is especially good as the dysfunctional sheriff who pulls himself together with the help of Ringo. Giuliano Gemma is even better in this movie than in the previous film, and I can't say enough about Nieves Navarro. Not only does she do a wonderful job portraying "Rosita," she looks even more incredible in this film than in the last one, which is a feat I would not have thought possible. She is quite possibly the most amazingly beautiful woman to ever appear in a western.

Morricone's music score is also an improvement over the one he wrote for the first Ringo movie. There is more music in this film, and the tunes are more memorable. I especially like the theme song.

Although "A Pistol For Ringo" wasn't bad, it was apparently just a warm-up for the filming of this movie, because "The Return of Ringo" is a much better film on all levels. It's not completely without flaws, but the imperfections here just add to the movie's charm and appeal. I consider this one to be a must-see for spaghetti western fans.

What A Shame I can't get a copy - This really is a Laugh

I first saw this film MANY years ago ( I am now 42) As far as I can remember there was no real dialogue. Instead there were mumbles, sounds etc, but it was a film that would by the nature of its comic genius, be understood by ANY country. Anyone who liked "The Plank" or "Futtocks End" would laugh their bits off over this one.

It was a "slightly" slapstick film about a daytrip to the continent (France I believe). It contained stereotypes. The English Lobster, sits in the sun until he/she turns red. The French drinks brandy, drives his car eats onions. The German is efficient and official.

Which ever country you are from, you would probably not see the funny side of the jokes about you, but would roar with laughter at the way the others are portrayed.

This was politically incorrect, but then again, what wasn't in those days.

THIS IS A MUST SEE IF YOU GET A CHANCE ( I.E They play it on TV where you live )WATCH IT. Honest.

Decent Remake

The first remake of the 1945 classic "And Then There Were None" is a fairly decent effort. While all of the wonderfully sly wit is gone this time, and the locale has been shifted from an island to a mountain resort (resulting in some characters having different nationalities this time) the results are still quite credible. The cast is good, with golden girl Shirley Eaton of "Goldfinger" fame looking quite lovely as the female lead. It's also amusing to see "My Fair Lady" almuni Stanley Holloway and Wilfrid Hyde-White together again in a completely different kind of film and setting. Just like the original, the identity of the killer (and I won't say who!) comes as a surprise because the performer gives a brilliant performance that makes it hard to link that performer with the one who committs all the murders beforehand. All subsequent remakes of this story have been awful. The original is still the best, but this one is okay to look at.

Broken Promises...

Forget ISHTAR and TOWN AND COUNTRY if you're looking for Warren Beatty's worst film --- PROMISE HER ANYTHING is it. Beatty's an "art film" director saddled with sitting for divorcée Leslie Caron's baby. He's lecherous enough to try and fool her into thinking he's not what he is in hopes of getting her into bed. She has her sights on psychiatrist Bob Cummings. There is very little that's funny despite the presence of comic experts like Cummings, Lionel Stander, and Hermione Gingold. Caron is not bad and she's extremely beautiful, but Beatty is completely at sea and obviously very uncomfortable playing in a farce. For some reason it's set in Greenwich Village but filmed in a studio in England. It looks and feels that way...and that's not a compliment! Promise yourself that you won't bother with this dog. Beatty would have A LOT more luck with comedy ten years later by creating the biting satire SHAMPOO.

My name is Donadieu, An-toi-ne-Do-na-dieu

When fishermen find the body of a dead man in their nets, secret agent Antoine Donadieu starts investigating the murder. He soon learns that a Chriscraft that might have something to do with the murder has been spotted by a witness. It leads Donadieu to a luxurious villa, where some strange characters are living, including a violent valet called Hamlet, a painter with some resemblance with Salvator Dali and a gorgeous Senta Berger-like vamp with tempting lips, played by Austrian belle Marisa Mell (1939-1992). (After a terrible car crash in 1963, two years before this movie was made, she underwent heavy plastic surgery in the face)

Donadieu is an unconvincing answer to James Bond, unraveling a plot that might have endangered world peace. But except for an American car with a telephone, Donadieu's impressive knowledge of judo and karate and a laser gun, there are no exotic weapons nor fancy gadgets in the movie. The plot is only moderately enjoyable, and nor the beautiful locations, nor some nice cars (watch out for the superb silver Alfa Romeo sports-car) nor Mell can save this movie.

With his 52 years, Jean Marais was already an aging actor, and it really shows. Frankly, I don't get it, why his presence is supposed to be a plus for this movie. Furthermore, this film somehow hesitates too much between a serious spy flick à la "Spy who came in..." and a funny parody. It definitely is rather the latter, but it misses the humor and wild exaggerations which make Bond fans enthusiastic. As such, Train d'Enfer might be a disappointment for both Le Carré-fans and Bond-aficionados. Cameo role for reporter-radio star-actor and "Grosse Tête" Leon Zitrone (1914-1995)

I'd rate it something between 5 and 6/10. Based on the French video issued by Video Paradiso (VHS 508886)

Exploitation that's neither fish nor fowl

The late filmmaker David Durston has his own take on this early work, revealed in his interview & commentary material included in its DVD resurrection. But he seems a victim of self-delusion, as the movie doesn't match his aspirations.

With a title (and subject) THE LOVE STATUE it is rather ludicrous for him to claim that it was a movie about drugs, in this case then-topical LSD, and not a sex movie. If your script is about a statue that the hero thinks (under LSD-inspired delusions) comes to life to make love with him, then we're solidly in sexploitation territory. The LSD angle, played up to a fare-thee-well by the video company packaging, is just a minor, unconvincing gimmick. And talking about making an art film influenced by European masters is pathetic when one views the actual result.

The revived for video version omits the added sex scenes the producers demanded but that Durston refused to shoot himself (credited to genre journeyman Al Viola). So what we have is a poorly made, lacking in nudity skin flick with far more flaws, including a wholly unsatisfactory final reel, than virtues.

Stage actor Peter Ratray chews the scenery as a stereotypical Greenwich Village artist living off a beautiful dancer (Beti Seay in the best performance, though also overplayed). His new sculptor roommate is a real oddball, limned by Harvey Goldenberg. It is interesting that in the AFI Catalog synopsis (published back in 1976) for the film his character's homosexuality is the key plot device, but that aspect is entirely missing from the DVD.

Durston also unleashes a Japanese pop star Choko Tsukuba, in a much ado about nothing American debut. It reminded me of the parallel world of female Japanese jazz vocalists, take a '90s star like Keiko Lee for example, who look good on paper but are pretty embarrassing to listen to, even if accompanied by American jazz masters.

The film's best element is the beautiful model for the statue that comes to life, credited under the pseudonym Nancy Norman (or is it local favorite Gigi Darlene -IMDb has the credits garbled). The fans deserved to see much more of whomever, however -maybe the missing additional photography footage delivers.

Durston gives a detailed alibi, blaming the weatherman, for why the confusing ending of the film is so poor, but it is intrinsically bad. The set up scene for a final confrontation is bungled and unconvincing, so when the tacked on scene (shot upstate instead of in Central Park due to a snowstorm botching up the schedule) unfolds credibility has already been lost.

I saw both of Durston's claims to fame, I DRINK YOUR BLOOD and STIGMA, in theaters back when they were new and wasn't impressed. He ended his film career cranking out gay porn which I haven't sat through, and I don't understand why he has a cult following at all.

One of the best "Euro" spy movies

Even if I didn't like ' 60s (and some later) spy movies, I would still hate that "Bond rip-off" label that they almost all get (at least, the "escapist" ones). Even fans of them always seem to be saying that. Sure, they owe a lot to the Bond movies, but they aren't copies. Having said that, this one maybe owes more than most, but in a good way. Of course, Richard Harrison always seemed to fit very well into these Italian adventure films of all kinds. And Dominique Boschero was very good as the "damsel in distress". And especially, Wandisa Guida was very good as the "villainess", as was the actor (I can never think of his name) who played her partner - though when they're together, I can't help thinking of a serious version of Boris and Natasha (he even has the same coat and hat!). But this had one down side. That actress and character seemed just right as an all-out "villainess", the kind who actually seduces the hero, like "Fiona" in Thunderball (a movie that this one seems to be inspired by more than a little). There was even a scene that seemed to set up that idea, but it didn't go anywhere else with it (as opposed to the big showdown between him and her & her partners). I have a real prejudice for adventure stories with "femme fatale" characters, but even considering that, this one seemed to really miss an opportunity when it came to that one thing. This brings up a question that someone might be able to help me with (though it's kind of a general one). Since European films are supposed to have been very free with bedroom scenes and things like that, earlier than American ones (though I'm sure that's a generalization), and since these movies are SUPPOSEDLY Bond rip-offs, I've always wondered why most of them are only SLIGHTLY titillating in that way, or not at all. In other words (rip-off or not), why aren't they full of "Bond girls" in the thorough-going sense?
