One of Tony and Brad's best with the boys on the hunt for a treasure of missing LSD that has been stolen by a criminal organization. Their quest eventually leads the boys to far-off desert oil ruins where much of the film's best action occurs. The scene where Tony hides in a bathtub with a totally naked gorgeous gal is playfully erotic.
One of the best in the Kommissar X series
There are not many movies filmed in exotic Istanbul for the western audience. I was hoping for something similar to Topkapi, but this is not in that league. However it is not bad for a low grade secret agent flick. Tony Kendall saunters through the sets pretending to be a cross between Dean Martin and John Gavin. Brad Harris seems to have fun playing GI Joe/G Man in a suit. The story has so many twists and scene changes that it could have been released as 3 different movies--since it was dubbed who would have known? Perhaps this deserves a viewing because it tries so hard to be entertaining. Most effective is the use of Istanbul's settings and environs for unique treatments and stunts (with the major exception of not showing the interiors of the great mosques). This may be the best of the Kommissar X series.

When a girl in a town that's populated by Hispanics is attacked, the only thing she says before falling into a coma is that her attacker is an outsider, a Caucasian. So the sheriff arrests the only outsiders there are. All he can do is hope that one of them will admit to being the attacker or that the girl can wake up long enough to identify him. But at the same time her father is preparing a lynch mob. So it's only a matter of time.
Bland Vengeance
Fernando Lamas directs himself in this low-budget melodrama taking place in a New Mexico border town where one of three jailed white men is the assailant in a rape case involving a local girl (seems the last word the victim said before losing consciousness was "gringo"). There's the Polish troublemaker (Aldo Ray), the dishonorably discharged soldier (Tommy Sands, with impossibly black hair), and the smart-talking drifter (David Carradine). Deputy sheriff Lamas fears the townspeople will turn into a lynch mob after the victim dies, but all we see are extras running across the street and half-heartedly breaking into the police station. This is the laziest riot in the annals of B-movie cinema! Still, Lamas manages to move the story along, and it's rather enjoyable despite a poor car chase and clichéd dialogue throughout ("You've got a wrap-sheet as long as your arm!"). The location shooting is quite good, despite sloppy editing which repeats some footage, and the acting is solid by each of the principals. ** from ****

Harry is a barely functional human. He meets an old friend who is having marital problems as Harry is about to leap off of a bridge. His friend decides that Harry is the man to take his wife away from him so that Milt can be with his girlfriend. Ellen and Harry have an instant attraction and in a short while Harry is wearing Milt's suits and Milt is free. But, Ellen soon discovers that Harry is the world's worst roommate.
Suicide is painful
...and so is "Luv". What might've been a mod, madcap romantic comedy is just an exercise in shouting (you'll never forget that Jack Lemmon plays "Harry"--it's all you hear from the other performers). A suicidal man is brought down from a bridge-railing by an old school friend who has other plans for the guy: fix him up with his unhappy wife so he can marry a fitness enthusiast. Had possibilities, few of which are realized. One is tempted to put some of the blame for this mess on Lemmon (who does some uncharacteristically sloppy slapstick here), but Clive Donner's direction should bear the brunt of it--he has no clue how to present this story. Based on the play, "Luv" has bright opening moments but soon sinks into theatrical clichés, the kind that creak and wheeze with age. Worse, it's a visual insult, with tatty color photography that only serves to expose the cheap production. What a shame! Lemmon and Peter Falk (so good together in the earlier "Great Race") make no music together, and Elaine May struggles for dignity. I struggled through "Luv" and laughed maybe three times. *1/2 from ****

"Red Lips" are two female detectives trying to find missing models and dancers. A pop artist called Klaus Thriller and his werewolf-like assistant, Morpho, are the main suspects for the murderers.
Slight but watchable comic book style spy film from Jess Franco
"Two Undercover Angels" is a fun and watchable if very slight film from Jess Franco, one of the most notorious and controversial filmmakers in cult film circles. The man made several truly amazing and captivating films, some entertaining diversions, and a lot of absolute crap. This falls in the middle category. Its a reasonably entertaining piece of pop art whimsy thats completely forgotten about once its over with. It shows that Franco, despite being a talented filmmaker, was extremely commercial and not prone at all to cash-ins. This campy little film seems quickly made to capitalize on the success of both "Barbarella" and "Danger: Diabolik".
There's a good amount of elements here that Franco is known for. A loopy and illogical plot (it is much easier to follow than his more well known films however), some crazy villains, pointless but welcome nudity, and beautiful women. The two undercover angels of the title are Janine Reynaud (who was in "Succubus", one of Franco's finest) and Rosanna Yanni, and are more than watchable whenever on screen. Adrian Hoven makes an amusing villain (he was also in "Succubus" and later the notorious "Mark of the Devil"). "Two Undercover Angels" is kind of like a bag of chips - its fun while it lasts, but ultimately pretty unsubstantial. It's entertaining, but completely forgettable and Franco's made much better films. (5/10)

In 1942, in Warsaw, a Polish prostitute is murdered in a sadistic way. Major Grau, a man from German Intelligence that believes in justice, is in charge of the investigation. An eyewitness saw a German general leaving the building after a scream of the victim. A further investigation shows that three generals do not have any alibi for that night: General Tanz, Maj. Gen. Klus Kahlenberge and General von Seidlitz-Gabler. They three avoid a direct contact with Major Grau and become potential suspects. As far as Major Grau gets close to them, he is promoted and sent to Paris. In 1944, in Paris, this quartet is reunited and Major Grau continues his investigation. Meanwhile, a plan for killing Hitler is plotted by his high command; a romance between Ulrike von Seydlitz-Gabler and Lance Cpl. Kurt Hartmann is happening and Insp. Morand is helping Major Grau in his investigation. The story ends in 1965, in Hamburg, with another similar crime.
Nice mix of genres
"What is admirable on the large scale is monstrous on the small."
It's Agatha Christie meets "The Battle of the Bulge" meets... oh you get the picture. Great cast lead by the always fabulous Peter O'Toole who delivers a memorable performance as General Tanz. Also nice to see French veteran actor Philippe Noiret in an ensemble that includes Omar Sharif, Tom Courtenay, Donald Pleasence and Christopher Plummer.
It is tense all the way mostly thanks to the great use of first Warsaw (and the atrocities performed there) as a backdrop for the story and then we move to Paris where the plot to kill Hitler is nicely interwoven.
"The Night of the Generals" is at parts predictable, yes, (with the great exception of Omar Sharif's final scene) but I guess that's also what makes it kinda' enjoyable at times - at least in the very last scene - when you know what's coming (and boy does it feel good).
Some may find it a bit tedious and yes it is long, but when it was over I knew I would definitely see it again sometime in the future so in short: it works! If you think this movie is your cup of tea, based on the IMDb-information, you're probably right.
8/10
